The Wels area has been populated for many thousands of years. Visitors can take an enlightening trip through the city's past with the newly renovated archaeological collection housed in the building of the former Minoriten monastery. The collection ranges from prehistory and early history to the Roman period, which was particularly significant for the city. The extensive range of archaeological finds obtained during the decades of research in the city and the surrounding area have made it possible to piece together a picture of life at that time. |
The area's ever-changing history and the history of the Minoriten building can be experienced through the archaeological excavations - some of which are open to visitors.
